TEHRAN – Nature has always been source of tranquility and peace for human being.

Bird watching, as an adventure, provides a great opportunity for nature enthusiasts to discover and extol good order which prevails in every aspect of life on Earth.

As a four-season country with different natural characteristics, Iran houses several bird watching sites in different parts. Here is a brief introduction to Meiqan wetland, as one of the unspoiled bird watching sites in Iran.

Meiqan wetland is located in northeast of the central city of Arak, 260 kilometers from Tehran. During the fall and winter, Meigan is home to migratory birds, which vary according to the season.

During the springtime there can be hundreds of common cranes and greylag geese together with many thousands of both common and ruddy shelducks, as well as various species of ducks and waders (with possible eastern rarities) and large numbers of greater flamingos.

Since most of the birds, which are flying on the lake, are wild, hence the visitors should keep a safe distance from the lake and a good pair of binoculars would be a great help to watch the birds by detail.

However, watching groups of birds flying over the lake from a distance is also graceful. A hide or observation tower has also been provided at the place to conceal observers from birds and improve viewing conditions.

The tower is decorated with some images of crane, since the place is the biggest crane habitat in Iran.

The residents of nearby villages protect the birds from hunters by reporting any suspicious cases to the officials. Hence, the wildlife goes on in the region and it is home to some wild animals including wolves and foxes and snakes.

There is a salt mine on the shore of the wetland, which adds astonishing scenery to the unspoiled landscape of the place.

It is time to travel to Meiqan and immerse yourself in nature! Just take your binoculars and hit the road to discover another beauty of this wonderful land, Iran!
